During the Oscars Academy Awards last night Mondo released posters for some of the nominated films in collaboration with the film studios. I was commissioned to do the one for Argo. The poster is for the made up Sci-fi film in the film. Argo was awarded with the Oscar for best film 2012.

I am a street photographer in New York City. Several months ago, I was approached by a representative of DKNY who asked to purchase 300 of my photos to hang in their store windows “around the world.” They offered me $15,000. A friend in the industry told me that $50 per photo was not nearly enough to receive from a company with hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue. So I asked for more money. They said “no.”

Today, a fan sent me a photo from a DKNY store in Bangkok. The window is full of my photos. These photos were used without my knowledge, and without compensation.

I don’t want any money. But please REBLOG this post if you think that DKNY should donate $100,000 on my behalf to the YMCA in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. That donation would sure help a lot of deserving kids go to summer camp. I’ll let you guys know if it happens.

I might start making a weekly list of things that made me fear for my safety in everyday life.

Like the guy who gave me a look before sitting down one table away from me at Panera, and proceeded to not bother to order any food.

Something that can easily be perfectly normal behavior has me a bit scared to get up and leave, in case he follows. So happy I’m walking back to work, on the side of a busy street, two blocks away.

So many things can be wrong or right with that scenario, I’m sure it’s tough to go though. Like he could have a daughter or niece you remind him of so he couldn’t help but look. Or he could be attracted to you in a normal way. Or he could’ve actually been a real life, crime committing weirdo. I dunno how to solve that problem babe :( sorry.

I’ll fear less for the safety of my friends if we go back to carrying swords, belt knives and spears and all that. And let’s face it, a cool spear is a great conversation piece. I’m probably not helping, am I? Well…
